Our athlete Shout out’s go to Eric G and Nads ! Congrats you two and thank you for your all out effort to support BBCF and the community we all love so much !

Eric has been with us since our garage days and i can remember like it was yesterday the first day this kid walked into the garage ! Super shy and a intimidated. I’m sure he remembers his first workout and i think he can agree that if he were do do that workout today, he would probably be able to do it two or three times in the amount of time it took him to do it once! Eric has came such a LONG way, he has changed dramatically and matured into a young adult. I’m very proud of this guy and cannot wait to see him continue to develop into a man and CF athlete !

Nadia has not been with BBCF too long but it sure seems as though she has. She has committed 100% of her new lifestyle to health and wellness ! Going hard and showing awesome progress day in and day out is what she does. Consistently showing up at 6am , endurance and even joining her first triathlon ! WOW ! That is commitment ! Less Jive, ALL DRIVE ! Way to go Nads !

Here are a few questions we dropped on them:

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

1. When did you start Crossfit and what made you start?

NADIA: I dabbled with Crossfit before coming to BoomBox but I wasn’t fully committed due to scheduling conflicts. I didn’t really start Crossfit until I came to BoomBox in Dec 2012. I was always overweight my whole life and I never could find something that I could stick with or that could motivate me enough. I was looking through Crossfit photos (on Instagram) because I wanted to start going more often than not and find a Box with a schedule that worked for me. I stumbled upon this really cool chick (Melanie Cagwin) on Instagram and I noticed that she wasn’t far from me and lived local. She was always trying to get me to WOD with her at BBCF. I was really scared and intimidated and put it off for a couple months then I just decided to hit her up and she put me in contact with Eric and it’s been history ever since then.

ERIC: I joined BoomBOX CrossFit March 6, 2012. That night I had just come home from work with my dad and had scarfed down two frozen burritos. My mom said “I’m gonna go try out this CrossFit thing in this guys garage. Do you wanna go?” I went. Got crushed. The rest is history.

2. What do you like about being a part of the Boombox family?

NADIA: Everyone there is amazing and so helpful and motivating and always has something good to say giving good feedback and advice. Most importantly I would like to say that Eric Al and Ray… You guys are so supportive. I couldn’t do any of this if it wasn’t for you!

ERIC: The best part about being part of the BoomBOX community is how much everyone supports you. Not just in CrossFit but in your everyday life.

3. What is one goal you have set for yourself this year?

NADIA: I am determined to do a pull up on my own! I will get there!

ERIC: To improve on gymnastics skills like muscle ups, handstand walks, etc.

4. What are some of the things you have accomplished since starting?

NADIA: Emotionally: I’m more confident, and my mindset has changed from the I can’t mentality to I can do it! Physically: I’ve lost about 30 lbs so far and my endurance and movements have gotten much better from when I first started. I have run the fastest 5k in my life ever!

ERIC: Since starting CrossFit just over a year ago I am now able to do strict pull ups, double unders, (a few triple unders), and some ugly bar muscle ups.

5. What is something no one else at the box knows about you?

NADIA: My parents named me after gymnast Nadia Comaneci. I’m by no means a gymnast but give me some weight to push around and I’m golden!

ERIC: Most people at the box probably don’t know that i have a fear of Roller Coasters.

6. What do you like to do outside the box?

NADIA: Spend quality time with my Son. Going to Dodger, Charger games, Craft beer connoisseur/outings and spending time with my awesome friends!

ERIC: Things I do outside the box would definitely be watching CrossFit efficiency and mobility videos while ironically sitting down. I also really like to cook.

7. What is your favorite and least favorite movement or wod?

NADIA: My Fav movement is the split jerk and least favorite is burpees, need I say more?

ERIC: My absolute favorite movement would have to be double unders but a close second would be power snatches. My least favorite is probably the most simple of the movements, push-ups.
